Why I Love Dogs

I've had a deep love of dogs for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was always surrounded by them, including our own beautiful rescue Shih Tzu who meant the world to me.

That love carried on into adulthood, where I had my own rescue Jug for 15 wonderful years. Now, we share our home with Rex, another rescue, a gentle English Setter. Rescue dogs have always been a constant in my life and my passion for them and desire to help them has only grown stronger over the years.

For over a year now, I’ve been a devoted volunteer dog walker and foster for a local rescue, and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. Knowing that you’re making a positive impact on a dog’s life, while also freeing up kennel space so more dogs can be rescued, is incredibly rewarding.

Through volunteering and starting Claires Canine Care, I’ve met so many different breeds - the big, the tiny, the seniors, the puppies and everything in between. I’ve met countless gorgeous pups, each with their own wonderful quirks, and I love every single one I’m lucky enough to meet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer to some common Questions

What are dog walking enclosures?

On our group walks we choose to walk our dogs in secure enclosures. As we provide fun filled pack walks, walking in enclosures gives complete peace of mind to our customers that their dog is safe and secure and this is a great option for dogs who's recall isn't quite 100%. We also have dogs who's recall are amazing however their owner just wants complete peace of mind on where their dog is being walked and we totally understand this. These are secure, fenced off enclosures across 3 different locations each week to provide variety for our dogs. Each enclosure location has 2 seperate enclosures, so we have the choice of 6 enclosures and this is mixed up each week depending on each locations availability. Alongside this some of the enclosures are running fields, woodlands with ponds and some offer agility equipment like tunnels, ball pits etc to well and truly stimulate your dog and exercise them well.

are there certain breeds that you wont walk?

No, we're open to all breeds. If you're looking to book a pack walk in an enclosure then your dog MUST be well socialised, know basic commands, dog and people friendly and not reactive. This is non negotiable for us. We're extremely passionate about protecting the existing pack and the safety of the dogs in our care is paramount.
Please keep in mind that there are times when a new dog coming into an established pack just doesn't work. This can be for various reasons and whilst all of our dogs are well socialised etc the pack just doesn't gel. Please try not to take this personally, this just happens from time to time. Just like us humans, dogs don't always get on with every dog that they meet. We will always introduce a new dog to a pack gently and carefully and will always be honest with you with how these first few interactions go. If for any reason the pack doesn't gel well, we will refund you for any walks that have been paid for in advance that have not been carried out.

what areas do you cover?

We cover Christchurch, Tuckton, Iford, Wick, Hengistbury Head, Southbourne and Hurn.

how do i make payment?

All payments must be made the week before your dog walks commence and will continue a week in advance. This is done this way for various reasons for both enclosure and solo walks. As the enclosures need to be booked in advance and can get booked up quickly, we need time to book our slots in the for the week ahead as well as working out the pack dynamics, pick up times and drops off and fitting the solo walks in around these.
You will receive a message from us every Monday asking for the days of the week that you require our services for the following week. You'll then receive and invoice which will need to be settled by midday each Wednesday ready for me to book enclosures and work out timings etc for the following week. Once everything is secured and our schedule is in place for the following week you will receive a final confirmation message with the following weeks details.
Any requests sent outside of these time frames may not be accommodated due to the enclosures t&c's.
Payments to be made by bank transfer.
We find that this is the best way for us and our customers to keep everything running smoothly and efficiently.

Do you give treats?

We love to give treats to our dogs! We love to reward good behaviour and create a positive experience for your dog. We also bring toys on our enclosure walks for our dogs to have fun with. We will discuss this with you and our forms ask for details for any allergies/ intolerances.

do you offer a meet and greet?

Absolutely! We don't walk any dog without having an initial meet and greet. We love to meet you and your dogs! We offer a free meet and greet of up to 30 minutes which gives us the opportunity to discuss your dogs requirements, form a bond with them and for you to get an idea if we're the right fit for you and your furry friend. Just pop us a message to arrange.

Can I book the same time in with you every week?

We offer 1 enclosure walk a day as well as some solo walks of 30 minutes and 1 hour. As the enclosure times can vary each day/week due to demand, we can't offer the exact same time every week. We will always be considerate of requests however this isn't something we can always guarantee for you. We also have to factor in pick and drop off times as well as unpredictable traffic. You will always be given a pick up and drop off time window but these are subject to change due to traffic which is out of our control.

where do you walk my dog on a solo walk?

On a 30 minute solo walk we will walk your dog straight out from your home for 30 minutes. If you book in an hour solo walk you have the choice of us either walking your dog from your home or taking them out in the car to a different location like St Catherines Hill, the beach, Iford playing fields etc. Any time spent travelling in the car will be factored into the hour booking slot.

do you walk dogs that are in tact or in season?

We do walk both in tact dog and dogs that are in season on solo walks.
In tact male dogs are allowed to join us on our enclosure walks however this is at our discretion depending on your dogs personality and behaviour.
In season females aren't able to join us on our enclosure walks. we rely on our customers complete honesty regarding this and this is stated in our terms and conditions which will be given to our customers before walks commence.

do you provide day care or overnight boarding?

Unfortunately at the moment we aren't licensed to provide day care or boarding however this is something that we may offer in the future.

What are your working hours?

Monday - Friday 8.45-4pm
We will always try and respond to messages/emails outside of this time when we can however this isn't always possible.

Do I need to be home when you collect and drop off my dog?

No, we are DBS checked for peace of mind.
We have some customers who work from home and will have their dog ready for their walk when we arrive and we have other customers who provide us with a key to collect their dog. We will issue you a key release form and will ask you where in the house you'd like us to leave your dog when we drop them off.

Will my dog come back muddy/dirty?

Whilst we have water and towels on hand to give your dog a quick clean down at the end of their walk, it is likely that your dog may still come home a little damp or have a small amount of mud or sand on them. Some of the enclosures can get very muddy during the wet months as well as some of them having ponds. We always encourage the dogs to play and to be dogs, so at times mud and dirt is to be expected.

What do we need from our customers?

Please ensure your dog has a collar with an up to date ID tag attached. If your dog walks with a harness then will will also use this as this is what your dog is used to. If your dog requires a coat, please make sure this is also available for us to use.
We will ask if your dog is chipped.
We ask all owners to make sure that their dog is up to date will all vaccinations and flea and worm treatment.
If your dog is unwell we rely on the honesty of our customers to inform us. This could affect us walking your dog whilst they're under the weather. The safety and well being of all dogs in our care is priority.

What happens if there's an emergency when you're out with a dog?

In the unlikely event of an emergency, we will try and make contact with you immediately. Before any walk commences we always ask for details of your chosen vet. We are canine first aid trained to a level 2 ability, so we would provide basic first aid in the first instance. If your dog requires help outside of our capabilities then we would take your dog to the nearest vet or your chosen vet. This is at the cost of our customer.

Are all of your walks off lead?

No. Our solo walks are catered to each individual dog. If you're 100% confident in your dogs recall and would like them to be off lead during their walk with us then we will assess this over their first few walks with us. A new dog in our care will always be on lead the first few walks until we've established a strong bond and seen their recall in action. We have a mixture of dogs in our care who are both off lead and on lead during solo walks.
During our pack enclosure walks all dogs are off lead unless our customer has specified otherwise. If a new dog is being introduced to the pack then they will remain on lead for some of the first walk or first few walks so we have time to look at the body language and behaviour of the dogs.

What if I need to cancel a walk?

As a small business we appreciate as much notice as possible. If you cancel a walk less than 72 hours before the walk, no refund will be given. Outside of 72 hours a refund will be given or your money will be kept on file for future walks. It's your choice πŸ™‚ Full terms and conditions of payments and cancellations are detailed in our Service Agreement which is always emailed to a customer before any walk begins.

Do you walk the dogs in all weather?

We will walk your dog in most weathers, sun, wind, rain etc however when it comes to the summer and really hot days we will cancel the walk if we feel that it is unsafe to walk your dog. Our dogs safety is our top priority and as well as taking into account the heat of the day, the breed of dog will also be taken into account. Flat faced dogs like Frenchies, Pugs etc struggle more than other breeds in the heat. Where possible we will always try and offer an early walk or a pop in to let your dog out into the garden so that they are not home alone all day. If we're due to have a storm, flooding of the enclosures (which can happen) strong dangerous winds then again we will not risk your dogs or our own safety.

do you provide updates of our dog?

Absolutely! We know how much our customers love an update of their dogs and photos to match. We also love to share the fun had on our walks, so photos are sometimes shared to our social media pages. Please let us know if you'd prefer your dog to not feature on our socials.

We are here to help and answer any further questions you have. Feel free to use the contact form and we will come back to you.
